La giornata delle Malattie Rare
Oggi 29 febbraio giornata delle Malattie Rare. Ma il 29 febbraio è come venerdì 17? Per nulla anzi… quale modo migliore, per esorcizzare superstizioni, macumbe e fatture, che dedicare una data, in apparenza nefasta o strana, a una buona causa? L’idea va in scena ogni 29 febbraio: linkare a malattie rare (che colpiscono non più di 5 persone ogni 10.000 abitanti) un giorno raro che compare infatti solo negli anni bisestili e ogni quattro anni tranne negli anni di fine secolo non divisibili per 400 (quindi 29 febbraio presente nel 2000 ma non nel 2100, 1900 e 1800). Scopo: rendere consapevoli di questa realtà non solo i pazienti e i loro familiari, ma anche politici, ricercatori, operatori sanitari e sociali, industrie del farmaco e mass media.
In Italia, le malattie “rare” colpiscono migliaia di persone (in Europa milioni) e uno dei problemi ad esse legate sono proprio o farmaci deputati a curarle, definiti “orfani” poiché, causa frammentazione delle singole malattie, non suscitano l’interesse economico e gli investimenti delle industrie farmaceutiche. Risultato: la mancanza di cure disponibili.
La Giornata delle Malattie Rare è organizzata su due livelli: uno internazionale, di competenza di Eurordis (Organizzazione Europea per le Malattie Rare), che fissa il tema annuale (negli anni non bisestili va in scena il 28 febbraio), lo slogan, il poster e cura il sito web europeo della manifestazione (www.rarediseaseday.org) e uno nazionale, di competenza dei diversi Paesi (in Italia la promozione e coordinamento degli eventi sono a cura di Uniamo – Federazione Italiana Malattie Rare onlus). Tornando alla data “nuda e cruda” le persone nate in questo giorno la data di celebrazione del compleanno nei tre anni non bisestili tra un 29 febbraio e l’altro è un bel problema: c’è chi lo festeggia il 28 febbraio chi lo celebra il 1º marzo o chi non lo osserva del tutto…
