Facebook amici e teorie sociali (parte I)

FacebookFacebook amici e relative teorie sociali (parte I)

English Version

If I have to invite two friends to dinner, will the evening be more likely to succeed if the two are in tune or not? The answer can be provided by the “Theory of social balance”, formulated to the Austrian psychologist “Fritz Heider” in the 1950s and, according to which, the relationships to be taken into consideration are the following: “my friend’s friend is my friend”; “The enemy of my friend is my enemy”; “The friend of my enemy is my enemy”; “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. The difficulty of testing this psychological / social theory had so far been represented by the lack of reliable data, given that the tests had been carried out on a small scale and therefore the consequent statistics were unclear and reliable. But a new world, which has now entered the leg in our lives, could be helpful: social networks. On the Internet, in fact, you can meet communities of hundreds of thousands of individuals who interact with each other “prey” to feelings of friendship, sympathy, antipathy, launching campaigns of “wars and peace”.
