Leopardo delle Nevi giornata mondiale perché questa importante ricorrenza?
Leopardo delle Nevi (o della Neve) è a rischio di estinzione, visto che, nonostante molti paesi siano impegnati per salvarlo, allo stesso tempo, la riduzione degli habitat e del numero di prede, oltre al bracconaggio, continuano a minacciarlo.

Leopardo delle Nevi la giornata mondiale è nata nel 2014, proprio in data 23 ottobre, su iniziativa dei dodici paesi asiatici che lo ospitano (Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cina, India, Kazakistan, Kirghizistan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tagikistan, Uzbekistan), in quanto primo anniversario dell’adozione della storica Dichiarazione di Bishkek, promulgata al primo Forum globale sulla sua conservazione tenutasi nella capitale del Kirghizistan, Bishkek; in seno al citato Forum i governi nazionali si erano impegnati a proteggere almeno 20 habitat naturali sicuri per i leopardi delle nevi; non bisogna però abbassare l’asticella dell’attenzione perché, anche se non esiste un conteggio accurato della popolazione, secondo la stima del Global Snow Leopard Ecosystem Protection Program esisterebbe un numero (davvero allarmante) di leopardi delle nevi allo stato brado compreso tra i 3920 ed i 6390 esemplari; ciò in quanto:

gli habitat sono sempre più frammentati
le attività umane ampliano sempre di più il loro range di azione
le popolazioni di prede naturali sono in declino
il bracconaggio è sempre una minaccia costante
i pastori locali, che temono per il proprio bestiame, mietono altre vittime fra la popolazione di questo splendido felino

Leopardo delle Nevi e… quindi per tutti i sopra menzionati motivi, è davvero importante celebrare la sua Giornata Internazionale (o mondiale che dir si voglia). Perché va evitato che l’unico Leopardo delle Nevi, meglio Snow Leopard, rimasto sia quello che porta il suo nome e fa capolino dai computer targati Apple e o Mac Intosh.

Snow Leopard World Day was born in 2014, on 23 October, on the initiative of the twelve Asian countries that host it (Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan), as the first anniversary of the adoption of the historic Bishkek Declaration, adopted at the first Global Forum on its conservation held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek; within the aforementioned Forum, national governments had committed themselves to protecting at least 20 safe natural habitats for snow leopards; however, we must not lower the bar of attention because, even if there is no accurate count of the population, according to the estimate of the Global Snow Leopard Ecosystem Protection Program there would be a (truly alarming) number of snow leopards in the wild between 3920 and the 6390 specimens; this because:

habitats are increasingly fragmented
human activities increasingly broaden their range of action
populations of natural prey are in decline
poaching is always a constant threat
local shepherds, who fear for their livestock, reap other victims among the population of this splendid feline

Snow Leopard and … therefore for all the aforementioned reasons, it is really important to celebrate its International Day (or world day if you prefer). Because it must be avoided that the only Snow Leopard, better still Snow Leopard, left is the one that bears his name and peeps out from Apple and Mac Intosh-branded computers.
