Luna Blu – Blue Moon astronomia o leggenda?

Luna Blu

English Version

There are actually two Blue Moons.

In the first case, the Moon turns blue at the second full moon in the course of a month.
The second case of the Blue Moon there are when four full moons occur in a season (normally there are only three). Blue Moon is therefore the fourth Full Moon.

The seasonal Blue Moon is probably more ancient and linked to the traditions of the pagan peoples, for which the year was counted in seasons and left at the Winter Solstice: from here it began to count the Moons.
In more recent times the moons are instead ordered starting from the month of January.

This exceptionality covered the Blue Full Moon of a particular alea.
It became a point of reference for requests, wishes and expectations.
So, as we have seen, the color of the Moon has nothing to do with it, nor does the size or the distance of our natural satellite.
A real Blue Moon became visible on September 26, 1950. The phenomenon was due to the presence of dust in the Earth’s atmosphere raised by vast forest fires in Canada. Another was recorded on 27th August 1883 and at the beginning there was the material raised by the explosion of the Krakatoa volcano.

A very special one was seen in the film the Smurfs of 2011, when our satellite took on a bluish color to allow the return of little blue men to home.
Green moons were instead sighted in Sweden in February 1884.
