Mancini: in questo mondo di… 

I mancini, ovvero “Mano del Diavolo”, “tiro mancino”, “immagine sinistra”… quanti detti e modi di dire si sono susseguiti nel tempo per sottolineare questa “diversità” (?), che porta a usare la mano e il piede sinistro al posto di quello destro; una “sindrome” che “affliggerebbe”, secondo le statistiche, il 10% circa della popolazione mondiale.

Echi di questa connotazione negativa sono rimasti anche a livello del linguaggio: per esempio, in spagnolo derecho sta per destro ma vuol dire anche “diritto” (in termini legali), in inglese “destro” si dice “right” (che vuol dire oltre che “diritto” anche “giusto”), stesso discorso per il tedesco con “recht”. Mancino e mancini, per chiudere l’excursus linguistico è una parola di derivazione latina nata da manus, “mano”, e dal suffisso “cus”, termine con il quale si indicava il portatore di difetti fisici.

Discriminazioni linguistiche, dunque, ma non solo, visto che in passato i bambini mancini venivano letteralmente “corretti” per far loro usare la mano destra nella composizione degli scritti.

Ma basta scorrere un breve elenco (ovviamente personale e non esaustivo) dei mancini (o “diversamente destri”) per accorgersi che il “lato mancino della Creazione” è ed è stato spesso sinonimo di genio: tra i tanti Lionel Messi, Valentino Rossi, Albert Einstein, Charlie Chaplin, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raffaello Sanzio, Pablo Ricasso, Giovanna D’Arco, Alessandro Magno, Carlo Magno, Giulio Cesare, Napoleone, Ludwig van Beethoven, Sergei Rachmaninoff e Maurice Ravel.
