Marte e acqua uguale fantascienza?
Marte e Acqua più i canali: l’acqua stessa, secondo Schiaparelli, veniva trasportata attraverso dei canali ma, non erano i canali stessi ciò che egli credeva di osservare quanto piuttosto le loro presunte conseguenze.
Marte e Acqua procediamo con ordine: attraverso il suo telescopio l’astronomo piemontese notava anche alcune diramazioni esterne – fenomeno detto della geminazione – che improvvisamente comparivano ai lati del canale principale – per poi ricollegarsi allo stesso – e quindi scomparire: una geminazione che sembrava prodursi principalmente intorno alle epoche dell’Equinozio di Primavera e dell’Equinozio d’Autunno, per la precisione nei mesi che precedevano e in quelli che seguivano la grande inondazione, che si notava soltanto nell’emisfero boreale.
Marte e Acqua e per un rapido processo che durava per pochi giorni – o anche per poche ore secondo le Cronache Marziane – un dato canale mutava aspetto e all’improvviso veniva trasformato per tutta la sua lunghezza in una o due linee o strisce spesso parallele fra loro. E la larghezza di queste nuove strisce poteva andare da 30 a 100 km. Tali geminazioni – che si notavano anche intorno ai laghi e ai mari interni – non si producevano poi tutte insieme e per alcuni canali addirittura mancavano; poi scomparivano fino alla stagione successiva.
Marte e Acqua (Idrogeno + Ossigeno) qualche conseguenza per I Marziani e compagnia: da quanto sora detto, si capiva – secondo Schiaparelli in queste sue ricerche cha rappresentavano una sorta di Martian Chronicles – come tali geminazioni non potessero essere formazioni stabili e di carattere geografico come i canali.
