Meteor Crater

(continua)

English version

Meteor Crater is a geological structure located 50 kilometers east of Flagstaff, Arizona in the United States; it was generated by a powerful impact that released a frightening energy in the explosion: according to some estimates it was probably equivalent to 5 megaton, or hundreds of times more powerful than the atomic bomb that destroyed the Japanese city of Hiroshima in 1945.

According to geologists, the crater was formed 49,500 years ago. The celestial body had a mass estimated to be around 120,000 tons; it had dimensions of 46 meters and was composed of 92% iron and 7% nickel, impacted on the ground at a speed between 15 and 20 kilometers per second. But what happened? What would be the show to which hypothetical observers would have attended?

Latina versio (Latinorum)
