Estinzione di massa in corso nel 2018

Estinzione on the air… ma questa volta non c’entrano le profezie Maya o le terzine di Nostradamus. In realtà, questa estinzione sarebbe di un fenomeno ben più concreto e pericoloso, almeno stando ai risultati di una ricerca dell’Università di Exeter (Regno Unito o Uk, se preferite). Secondo i ricercatori britannici, sarebbe in corso la sesta grande estinzione di massa sul nostro pianeta, nell’indifferenza più totale, peraltro… La quinta, datata 65 milioni di anni fa, aveva travolto i dinosauri e la causa sarebbe da ascrivere all’impatto di un grande meteorite (anche se le opinioni sull’argomento non sono univoche). Questa volta i corpi celesti extraterrestri non c’entrano ma l’identikit del killer sembra avere sembianze prettamente umane; e incessantemente distruggerebbe foreste, cementificherebbe il territorio, inquinerebbe acque e terreni con pesticidi e fertilizzanti (chimici). Seguendo il ritmo odierno, entro fine secolo, secondo le stime degli scienziati “made in Uk”, una specie su dieci sarebbe inevitabilmente destinata al crepuscolo. Nella storia del pianeta, come insegna l’evoluzione naturale, le diverse specie viventi si sono sempre estinte ma la velocità dell’estinzione attuale sarebbe mille volte superiore a quella, come dire, fisiologica.
