Il Rapporto di Minoranza nel film “Minority Report” (by Steven Spielberg) mostra un finale “bucolico” con un poliziotto che, sventata la cospirazione ordita contro di lui, si riconcilia con la moglie e si prepara a diventare di nuovo papà e con tre precognitivi che, lontani dai laboratori, si ritirano a vivere in campagna lontano da tutto e tutti: un happy ending che ha lasciato un po’ perplessi i fan di Philip Kindred Dick, autore dell’omonimo racconto dal quale il film è tratto (o meglio ispirato) e le cui atmosfere sono sempre tinteggiate con sfumature decisamente cupe.
Il Rapporto di Minoranza fu pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1956 e racconta una storia con molte differenze rispetto al film. Il protagonista di queste peripezie è sempre il commissario della “Polizia Precrimine”, John Anderton, impegnato a sfuggire alla trappola tesa nei suoi confronti e che ha lo scopo di screditare la divisione da lui diretta, grazie alla quale l’umanità ha completamente eliminato gli omicidi per merito di tre precognitivi (precog): le loro previsioni, infatti, consentono agli agenti di precedere l’azione criminosa arrestando il (presunto?) colpevole. Ma il Rapporto di Minoranza, con questo nuovo ordine instaurato, ha tolto potere e influenza ai militari che, quindi, tentano di mostrarne la fallacia. But the Minority Report, with this new order established, has removed power and influence from the military who, therefore, try to show its fallacy.
