Il passo potrebbe essere breve grazie alla “Coffee Car MK 2”, un’automobile il cui motore brucia fondi di caffè.
La vettura “incriminata” è una vecchia Rover “SD1”, rimasta in produzione fino alla seconda metà degli anni ‘80. Sotto il cofano, nel motore una “tigre” V6, alimentata da un impianto di gassificazione che brucia fondi mixati con legno, a una temperatura davvero hot (700 °C) in una location a elevata pressione (10 atmosfere). Un sistema che già è stato sperimentato nel 2010 dallo stesso team con una Volkswagen “Scirocco”, soprannominata “Car-Puccino” che aveva raggiunto Manchester partendo da Londra (337 chilometri in tutto), bruciando solo fondi di caffè. Il consumo medio del viaggio era stato calcolato in 1 kg circa di fondi per ogni tre miglia, quindi 56 tazze di espresso circa ogni 1600 metri. Detto che, a conti fatti, non si tratta proprio di un combustibile economico, non si hanno news, però, sull’aroma in uscita dagli scarichi…
