Enigmistica et Sciarada vanno a braccetto? Nella top ten dell’antichità svettava questo indovinello formulato da Edipo alla Sfinge: “Qual è l’animale che al mattino avanza con quattro zampe, a mezzodì procede con due e quand’è sera cammina con tre?”.
Ecco la soluzione: l’animale in questione è “l’uomo che, da giovane, cammina a quattro zampe, durante la sua età matura sulle due gambe e da vecchio ha bisogno del bastone”.
Archiviata questa vicenda che va da crepuscolo a crepuscolo… si può procedere.
La “dimensione” che interessa l’enigmista si trova nella differenza tra il senso nominale del testo e quello nascosto. I termini “mattino”, “mezzodì” e “sera” non sono, infatti, i momenti della giornata, bensì rappresentano le diverse fasi nella vita dell’uomo.
E di indovinello, almeno nell’antichità, si poteva addirittura perire; narra la leggenda che Omero, il mitico autore di “Iliade” e “Odissea”, sia addirittura morto di vergogna per non essere riuscito a risolvere l’indovinello posto da un gruppo di pescatori dell’isola di Ios che diceva, parola più parola meno: “Quello che noi abbiamo preso, l’abbiamo lasciato; quanto non abbiamo preso, ce lo portiamo”.
Ecco la soluzione sfuggita al cantore di Ulisse/Odisseo: si trattava delle pruriginose pulci che i pescatori si erano presi: quelle che si erano trovate addosso le avevano tolte, mentre le altre, ovviamente, erano rimaste loro attaccate…

And of riddle, at least in antiquity, one could even perish; legend has it that Homer, the mythical author of “Iliad” and “Odyssey”, even died of shame for not being able to solve the riddle posed by a group of fishermen on the island of Ios who said, word more word less : “What we took, we left it; what we have not taken, we carry it “. Here is the solution escaped from the singer of Ulysses / Odysseus: it was the itchy fleas that the fishermen had taken: the ones that had found themselves had removed them, while the others, obviously, were remained attached to them … But the riddle even popped into the Bible … (to be continued?).
