Teoria dei giochi e le teorie sui giochi. La prima è la scienza matematica che analizza situazioni di conflitto e ne ricerca soluzioni competitive e cooperative tramite modelli; in soldoni, si analizzano le decisioni individuali in situazioni in cui vi sono interazioni tra due o più soggetti, tali per cui le decisioni di un soggetto possono influire sui risultati conseguibili da parte di un rivale.
Nella Teoria dei giochi si definisce equilibrio di Nash un tipo di strategia (una per ciascun giocatore) nella quale nessun giocatore ha interesse a essere l’unico a cambiare. Grazie ad essa John Nash ha rivoluzionato l’economia con i suoi studi di matematica, per l’appunto applicata alla Teoria dei giochi, vincendo il premio Nobel nel 1994.
Dalla versione romanzata della sua vita, e della Teoria dei Giochi è stata tratta, nel 2001, la pellicola A Beautiful Mind, diretta da Ron Howard (già Richie Cunningham in Happy Days), dedicato alla vita di John Forbes Nash jr. e interpretata dal gladiatore Russell Crowe.
