Nemesi (Nemesis): Estinzioni di massa sognate o infondate (parte II)
Nemesi e dintorni. Il passaggio di questa stella invisibile provocherebbe la “caduta” verso il Sole di circa 2 miliardi di questi corpi, in “ibernazione” nella Nube di Oort, e che verrebbero poi trasformati dal vento solare in suggestive comete.
Statisticamente, nell’arco di un milioni di anni, una ventina di esse dovrebbe entrare in rotta di collisione con la Terra, provocando estinzioni di massa e danni su larga scala. Oggi noi sappiamo che, nonostante siano numerosissimi i sistemi stellari doppi e multipli presenti nell’universo (basta puntare anche un binocolo verso il cielo per rendersene pienamente conto),
il nostro Sole è una stella “single”, quindi Nemesi rappresenta un fantasma nello spazio; e quindi questa teoria, per quanto suggestiva, non ha fondamento scientifico alcuno. Anche perché, con il progredire delle tecniche di osservazione (e della strumentazione utilizzata), Nemesi avrebbe dovuto essere già stata osservata da tempo e,invece, tutto tace…
