Palla a pugno: da gioco antico alle Olimpiadi del 2020
Palla a pugno: dal 2001 si chiama ufficialmente così, ma per i tifosi meno giovani rimane sempre il “balon” (in piemontese) o “pallone elastico”: sembrava uno sport antico e destinato all’oblio, confinato fra gli sferisteri (questo il nome del campo a gioco) di Langhe, Monferrato e Ponente ligure e invece all’orizzonte, per la Palla a pugno, si intravede addirittura una possibile partecipazione alle Olimpiadi del 2020. È giocato fra due squadre da due squadre di quattro giocatori (dette quadrette) con un battitore, una spalla, due terzini che colpiscono la palla di due etti con il pugno fasciato di gomma. Questo sport dove i punti si contano come nel tennis (quindici, trenta, quaranta, gioco) e che si dipana in 11 giochi, ha ricevuto un notevole impulso dalle nuove tecnologie. Spesso le partite del campionato vengono infatti trasmesse on streaming sul Web e vi assistono live migliaia di spettatori. E poi c’è il già citato sogno olimpico… L’internazionalizzazione del “balon” passa attravero l’accostamento/gemellaggio con discipline sportive affini, quali alcuni tipi Pelota spagnola, il “Kaatsen” olandese, il “Fives” dei collegi inglesi fino al più noto “Frontball” molto diffuso e praticato a New York e dintorni; e proprio un mix con quest’ultimo, che darebbe vita al “Fronton on the Wall” potrebbe essere il primo passo verso i “Giochi estivi” targati 2020.
