Fenice la costellazione dedicata alla mitica Araba Fenice…
appartiene al gruppo dei quattro asterismi dedicate agli uccelli in questa zona del cielo (Pavone, Tucano e Gru sono gli altri). Ideata negli anni fra il 1595 e il 1597 dai navigatori olandesi Pieter Keyser e Frederick de Houtman. Trovandosi a est di Eridano, può essere rintracciata nei pressi di Achernar (alfa Eri). Visibile dai Tropici e nell’Emisfero Australe. Il nome Ankaa della stella alfa (2.39 colore giallo) è di origine incerta.
La Fenice, un mitico uccello che periodicamente si immolava sul fuoco, per poi risorgere come nuovo dalle proprie ceneri.
Fu associato all’immortalità e ai segreti dell’alchimia.
Per gli antichi Arabi queste stelle formavano una nave.
A qualcuno è venuta forse in mente la Nave di Argo?

This constellation belongs to the group of the four constellations dedicated to birds in this area of the sky (Peacock, Toucan and Crane are the others). Designed in the years between 1595 and 1597 by the navigators of Pieter Keyser and Frederick de Houtman, it lyies east of Eridanus, it can be traced near Achernar (alpha Eri). It is visible from the Tropics in the Southern Hemisphere. The name Ankaa the name of alpha star (2.39, yellow) is of uncertain origin. The Phoenix was a mitich bird that periodically sacrificed itself on the fire, to then rise again as its own ashes, was associated with immortality and the secret of alchemy. For the ancient Arabs these stars formed a ship. Argo Navis (ship) suggestions?
